Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the process take?
From starting your application to receiving your residency card typically takes 4–8 weeks. Consulate appointment availability is the biggest variable.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. Mexico Newcomers handles all communication with Mexican authorities on your behalf, and our team is bilingual.
Can my family apply with me?
Yes. Spouses and dependent children can apply at the same consulate appointment. Additional financial requirements apply per dependent.
What if I don't qualify?
If you purchase our Fast Track service and do not qualify based on your documented income or savings, we provide a full refund.
Can I work in Mexico with residency?
Temporary residency can include work authorization if your employer petitions for it. Passive income (pensions, investments, remote work for foreign employers) does not require work authorization.
What is the difference between temporary and permanent residency?
Temporary residency is valid for 1 year (renewable up to 4 years). Permanent residency never expires and grants most of the same rights as Mexican citizens. After 5 years of legal residency, you may apply for Mexican citizenship.
